The Mustangs were back in action on Friday, January 10th taking on the Algoma Thunderbirds.
The Thunderbirds came out in the first quarter matching the Mustangs pace. Western's offense picked up where they left off in December, led by Lucas Sheets with 6 points and Noah Otshudi with 9 points. Western led after the first quarter 19-13.
The Mustangs offense continued to thrive on the back of Otshudi, who had 22 points at the half. He was supported by Sheets who had 10 and Troy Nekkers who had eight points. Western's defense restricted the Algoma offense to a mere five points in the quarter, and led 49-18 at the break.
The third and fourth quarter saw Otshudi continue to light it up from all ends of the court. He dropped a season-high 33 points with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Sheets paired perfectly with him, knocking down four threes on his way to 24 points. Western earned their first win of 2025, beating Algoma 98-55.
