WATERLOO, ON -
On Wednesday evening, the Mustangs travelled to Waterloo to take on the Warriors in search of their sixth straight win.
Both teams played at a fast pace and moved the ball well in the first quarter. Western's defense forced six turnovers, and capitalized on them scoring 13 points. After Waterloo came out early to a 8-2 lead, Western fought back leading 24-16 after the first 10 minutes.
The Mustangs continued to pour it on, burying the Warriors early on in the second quarter. They shot 56% from the field and nailed 5 threes at the half. Defensively, they forced 11 turnovers and scored 19 fast break points. Lucas Sheets, Mikyle Malabuyoc and Matteo Zagar each had 11 points for the Mustangs at half. Western led 50-30.
The Mustangs extended their lead to 30 points heading into the fourth quarter. Defensively, their zone was organized and prevented Waterloo from getting any consistency in their offense. The Warriors also struggled from the three-point line, going 6-23 on the night.
Western coasted to their sixth straight win, beating Waterloo 87-52. The Mustangs are back in action on Friday, January 31st at 8PM EST against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Tune in live on OUA.tv.
