Mustangs Defeat Laurier, 6-2

London, ON - The Western Mustangs bounced back on home ice Saturday afternoon with a 6-2 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks at Thompson Arena. 

Western got off to a quick start, scoring just 1:46 into the game when Eric Van Impe found the back of the net on the power play, assisted by Zach Power and Christiano Aiello. 

At 8:07, Lawson Sherk added another goal for the Mustangs, with Aiello and Yearwood collecting assists to make it 2-0 after one period. 

The Mustangs extended their lead early in the second when Sherk scored his second in the game at 2:33, assisted by Aiello and Power. Laurier made it 3-1 a minute later, but Western kept up the momentum. At 9:57, Aiello scored to restore a three-goal lead, assisted by Yearwood and Power, before Power added one of his own at 15:36 from Yearwood. Western entered the final frame, leading 5-1. 

Owen Saye made it 6-1 just 1:28 into the third period, assisted by Shawn Ramsay and Brett Willits. Laurier scored a power play goal at 10:52, but Western held strong the rest of the game to close out the 6-2 win. 

The Mustangs are back on the road next Friday, October 31, 7:00 p.m. face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay, ON.
