Thunder Bay, ON – The Western Mustangs opened their weekend road series on Halloween night with a 4-2 loss to the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
Both teams exchanged chances in the opening frame, but neither side could break through. Western earned an early power play five minutes in but couldn't convert. Strong defensive play and steady goaltending from Jack McNaughton (#33) kept the game scoreless after one.
In the second period, Lakehead opened the scoring at 4:32 to take a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Western responded as Aidan Prueter (#94) tied the game 1-1, assisted by Tye McSorley (#12). The Thunderwolves regained the lead midway through the period with a power-play goal and held a 2-1 advantage heading into the final frame.
In the third Period, Lakehead extended their lead early in the third to make it 3-1. The Mustangs continued to battle, and Ben Campeau (#20) scored with three minutes left to pull Western within one. Despite late pressure and an empty-net push, Lakehead added one more with 13 seconds remaining to secure the 4-2 win.
