Windsor, ON - The Mustangs Track & Field team kicked off the 2026 schedule with an impressive performance, including four auto qualifiers, at the Windsor Can-Am.
On day one of this competition, the hurdlers and distance crew set the tone with some phenomenal performances. Coming off an Achilles rupture last season, David Adeleye had his first race back and led the men in the 60m hurdles with a U SPORTS auto qualifying performance of 7.94s. He was closely followed by Ayden Blain and Deandre Williams, running 7.07s and 7.08s respectively. Maria Linton held down the women's 3000m with a stellar run of 9:23.40, auto-qualifying in the process. Maria would go on to dominate the mile with a time of 4:49.12.
In the field, Liv Sands crushed her old school record by 12cm with a toss of 17.05m in the shot put. She would then go on to throw a meet record of 18.31m in the weight throw Competition.
Day two started off hot on the track with Hallee Knelsen blazing to an auto qualifying run of 2:36.58 in the women's 1000m. This performance placed her second overall. Maya Chande had a strong showing in the 60m with a run of 7.62 in the semifinals and following it up with a consistent 7.63 in the finals landing her second overall. On the men's side, Aaron Thompson won the 300m with a commanding run of 34.78.
Zach Courtney had a fantastic showing in the high jump with a leap of 2.05m, placing third. He would later go to fourth place in the long jump. On the runway, Zach was accompanied by Arman Shahzadeh and Shaheer Hussain who would place second and fifth respectively. Deborah Adeleye held down the runway for the woman with a jump of 5.64m, netting her second overall.
The Mustangs had a phenomenal showing at this early season competition. The Mustangs are ready to defend home turf next weekend as they will be hosting the Don Wright Team Challenge.
