Track & Field competes at 2026 Don Wright Team Challenge

Over a dozen Mustangs top the podium at 42nd Don Wright Team Challenge

London, ON - The defending national champion Mustangs Track & Field team delivered an outstanding one-day performance at the 42nd annual Don Wright Team Challenge this weekend. 

The throws circle belonged to Liv Sands, who produced one of the top performances of the meet. Sands set a new meet record in the women's weight throw with a massive toss of 18.89m, winning the event in commanding fashion. She would later return to lead a complete women's shot put sweep, winning with a throw of 16.85m, followed closely by Rhinnah Badom (12.70m) and Anji Sparenberg (12.28m) to secure first, second, and third respectively. 

On the men's side, Sam Morrow had an outstanding performance with third-place finishes in both the men's weight throw (15.35m) and shot put (14.24m). 

Western continued to excel across the technical events. Julia King claimed victory in the women's pole vault (3.60m), while Emanuel Desilets led the way for the men securing the win with a clearance of 4.80m, auto-qualifying in the process. In the horizontal jumps, Zach Courtney won the men's long jump (7.10m) and Charlie Ostapowich led the women with a first-place finish of 5.77m. 

The highlight on the track came in the men's 60m hurdles, where the boys delivered a clean podium sweep. Ayden Blain led the charge with a winning time of 8.10, followed by Deandre Williams (8.23) and Markus Grant (8.27), showcasing depth and dominance in the hurdles. 

Additional standout performances included Rachel Watson's victory in the women's 60m hurdles (8.58) and Jevaughn Roberts' win in the men's 60m (6.90). On the sprint side, Taya Keast claimed first place in the women's 300m (40.24), while Western also saw multiple podium finishes across middle- and long-distance events, including wins from Satveer Gill (3000m) and Hallee Knelsen (1500m).
