TORONTO, Ont. – For the third year in a row, the Mustangs Women's Tennis team will bring home a bronze medal from the OUA Championship.

The Women's team dominated the bronze medal match against York, beating them 6-1. Yutong Zou and Madeleine Martynyshyn were the only other two players to go undefeated in the tournament, winning five matches each.

"We have come third for the past 2 years, and we wanted to stay at the same level now that we had to play for bronze again," said co-captain Chantal Stepanova. "We motivated each other throughout all the matches to secure that bronze medal and have even more motivation to bring home the gold next year!"

The Mustangs started the weekend with a 6-1 win over Ottawa. Stepanova, Sierra Ausman, Lillian Pappas, Chloe Hancock & Zou all picked up singles wins in the match.

Western battled with Queen's in the semi-final, ultimately losing 4-3. After dropping the doubles point, the two sides split the singles match, which pushed the Gaels to the gold medal match and Western to the bronze.

"We're incredibly proud of the perseverance all of our girls showed throughout the tournament. Whether in a winning or losing effort, they fought hard to the last point and left it all on the court." said Co-Head Coach Chantal Forristal.

Ausman was named an OUA All-Star for her performance at the event.

"With the whole starting lineup coming back next year, and our rookies now having some invaluable experience under their belts, we'll be looking for redemption against Queen's and hopefully a gold or silver next season!" said Co-Head Coach Maciek Gebczynski.
