Windsor, ON & Boston, MA - The Western Mustangs Track and Field team closed out the 2026 regular season this past weekend with split squads competing at the Windsor Indoor Classic and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational. With the OUA Championships on deck, the Mustangs delivered a strong final statement, highlighted by multiple event wins, podium sweeps, school records, and numerous personal best performances.
In Windsor, the short sprinters had a dominant performance in the 60m dash. Olivia Reevie (7.55) led a one-two finish on the women's side, followed by Morgan Reevie (7.66). The men mirrored that success with Michael Kerr (6.92) and Mattias Cherniak (6.93) finishing second and third in the men's 60m.
The Mustangs continued their sprint success in the 300m, where Taya Keast (40.29) and Cora McQuinn (40.78) secured a commanding one-two finish in the women's race, while Thomas Helland added a runner-up performance in the men's 300m (34.95). Over the hurdles, Rachel Watson ran an outstanding 8.38 in the prelims of the women's 60m hurdles. This performance bested Rachel's previous personal best by over a tenth, and she accomplished this after returning from hip surgery.
In the field, Western's throws group was dominant. Sam Morrow won the men's weight throw (16.01m) and later added another victory in the men's shot put (15.58m), leading a full podium sweep alongside Nic Soltys and Roman Yeterian. The men's weight throws also saw a sweep, with Morrow, Soltys, and Yousef Al Daadaa finishing first through third. On the women's side, Anji Sparenberg won the weight throw (14.64m) and added a second-place finish in the shot.
The jumps crew matched that dominance. Jackson Mackay (7.09m), Zach Courtney (7.07m), and Shaheer Hussain (6.91m) completed a full podium sweep in the men's long jump. In the triple jump, Banujan Kulainthiran and Kaveh Jalali Sohi went one-two, while Deborah Adeleye captured the women's long jump title (5.54m). The men's high jump saw Fuaad Abiola and Nabeel Haliru secure second and third place finishes respectively.
Hallee Knelsen set a new school record in the women's 1000m, winning the event in 2:42.38. Teammate Juliana Hendrikx added a strong fifth-place finish in the same event. On the men's side, Liam Smith etched his name into the record books with a school record in the mile (4:06.35).
With the regular season now complete, the Mustangs turn their full focus toward the OUA Championships and the start of championship season, carrying momentum, confidence, and record-breaking performances into the most important stretch of the indoor campaign.
