London, ON - The Western Mustangs Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 1 are Jackson Mackay (Track & Field) & Kate MacDonald (Ringette).
Mackay won the heptathlon at the Penn State meet with a score of 5737pts, which automatically qualified him for the U SPORTS championships and ranks him #1 in Canada by 346 points. This not only broke Western's school record, but it is the highest ever heptathlon score in U SPORTS history, and the 4th highest score in Canadian history by a U23 athlete. Mackay established personal bests in in 5 of the 7 events, and also auto qualified for U SPORTS in the open 60m hurdles in the process, now ranking him #4 in the country in that event.
MacDonald led the Richmond Hill tournament in scoring with 13 points in 6 games (6 goals and 7 assists). Western finished 2nd.
