SEASON RECAP
It was a VERY successful year for the Mustangs Wrestling team, both as a group and individually.

Western hosted the OUA Championship this year at Alumni Hall, which saw over 300 matches in the one-day event. Lukas Geske and Jonelle Clarke dominated on the mat, both capturing gold in their respective weight classes. Geske won his fifth consecutive OUA title at 82kg—making him the first Mustang in program history to win five in a row and only the second ever to collect five total OUA titles. Western's women's team was anchored by another commanding champion, Jonelle Clarke, who captured the OUA title at 65kg in flawless fashion, winning all three of her matches in the first round without giving up a point. The Mustangs also celebrated outstanding gold-medal performances from Chayton Valleau and Charlie Ortencio. The Mustangs finished 2nd in team standings on both the men's & women's sides. Clarke was named the Most Outstanding Women's Wrestler award winner, while Iman Zebian won the Women's Community Service Award.

At the U SPORTS Championship, Clarke & Geske continued their dominance, both winning gold medals with outstanding performances. Geske capped off his varsity career and an undefeated season by winning the national title in dominant fashion. Geske went 5–0 at the championships, outscoring his opponents 59–6 and winning every match by technical superiority. The win completed Geske's perfect 27–0 season, and earned him recognition as the U SPORTS Male Wrestler of the Year. Clarke also rounded out her varsity career by claiming national gold in the 65 kg division. Clarke defeated Calgary's Mackenzie Cayer 12–1 in the championship final, putting an emphatic end to a season in which she medalled at every tournament she entered. Her year included five golds and two silvers in league competition. Western's men finished tied for 4th in team standings, while the women's team was 5th.

At the Mustangs Awards, Clarke was named Female Athlete of the Year and received a Purple Blanket, while Geske was named the winner of the 2026 Dr. Claude Brown Memorial Trophy as the top graduating student-athlete.
