London, ON - The Western Mustangs Women's Basketball team is set to welcome two new student-athletes to the program for the 2026-27 season.
This year's additions to the program include Reese Burleigh & Isabella Cotton.
"We have a small but exciting group of athletes in this years recruiting class. Both athletes will contribute from day one as they are great athletes, outstanding teammates, and incredibly accomplished already in their young basketball careers." said Head Coach Nate McKibbon. "To have one athlete with multiple OFSAA Championships and most recently a Juel Championship in her last year of high school, as well as a transfer who has played 4 years of OUA basketball can only push our program forward!"
Reese Burleigh
Height: 5'10

Previous program: Simcoe United Juel
Intended academic program at Western: Kinesiology and Ivey AEO
Why did you choose Western?:
"I chose Western because of the great culture and academic programs, as well as how the team is a family. I was immediately supported by the girls and coaches who make Western feel like home."
Specialty: I would describe my play as versatile. I am a sizeable guard who can move quick, but I also rebound and use my body in ways that not all guards can.
Career Highlights: Back to Back AAA Senior girls OFSAA gold medalist, 2026 Juel gold medalist
Notable Awards: 2x Juel First Team All Star, 2025 All star game MVP, 2026 Juel League Tournament MVP
Coach McKibbon's comments:
"Reese was one of the top recruits in Canada this year. Her multiple championships in her last year of high school show not only her qualities as a top athlete, but one of the most respected leaders in her class. She has dedicated herself to getting better every year, is a supportive teammate, and always puts her team first. To possess point guard skills, her ability to play in transition but also be one of the best rebounders on the floor make her a unique talent. We can't wait to see all that she accomplishes in her time at Western!"

Why did you choose Western?:
"I grew up in London so it's nice to be back in my hometown and have the opportunity to play basketball in front of my family and friends. I also really wanted to pursue a Masters of Public Health."
Career Highlights?: Spending 4 years at Laurier University and ending my career as captain. Getting third at OFSAA for high school basketball.
Describe your style/specialty: My game is all about speed and defence. I use my quickness to stay in front of my matchup, put pressure on the ball, force turnovers, and hustle every play. I take pride in playing tough defence and using my speed in transition to help create scoring chances for my team.
Notable Awards: High school Athlete of the Year, Ms. Basketball, OFSAA award, SPECTRA nominee for my high school

"Isabella was always a tough match-up for us in her time at Laurier. She was one of the quickest and hardest working players in the OUA and always seemed to save her best for when she played Western. The fact that she has improved every year at the university level shows her dedication to getting better. Her experience, athleticism and effort will make an instant impact on our team. We look forward to welcoming her home to London and share her last year of university basketball with her friends and family!"
