To qualify as a member of the MEN's 2026 Western Cross Country Team, student-athletes will be evaluated on a variety of high-performance cross country criteria, including, but not limited to, the following:

1. Performances at key workouts during TRYOUT WEEK beginning Monday Labour Day along with performance at the Purple & White Intrasquad Races at Gibbons Park scheduled on the Friday following Labour Day Monday. Men trying out for the team will run 6km at the Intrasquad Race; the cut off time for a returning athlete will be 20:00 and the cut off time for a first year athlete will be 20:30.

2.  Performance standards achieved at an organized track meet by August 1, 2026. Athletes must provide documentation (official track results) of race performances indicating that they have achieved the following minimum time standards:

3000m 5000m 2000m Steeplechase
1st Year Men     9:00 15:45 6:20
Upper Year Men 8:50 15:20 6:10

Please note that the second qualification process is optional for those who would like to make the team prior to TRYOUT WEEK in September. Also, please be aware that if a performance standard is achieved by August 1, 2026, the student-athlete will still need to take part at key workouts during tryout week, as well as competing at the Purple & White Intrasquad races.

Just a reminder that although all evaluation criteria will be considered, the Head Coach, with input from the coaching staff and cross country captains, will have jurisdiction and authority over all team operations; including and not limited to: team selection, team roster, who gets to compete, and additions and removal from the team.

*TRYOUT WEEK will take place from Monday September 7, 2026 (Labour Day) until Friday, September 11, 2026, with team practices daily at 3:30 p.m. meeting at the indoor track in Thompson Arena. The Purple & White Intrasquad Race (6km) will be held at Gibbons Park on Friday, September 11, 2026 with the men starting at 3:30pm and the women staring at 4:00pm.

*Once the team is selected, team practices will take place daily on Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.
