Shane Latimer makes his debut as a part of the Western Mustangs curling team’s coaching staff in the 2014-15 season with four years of coaching experience under his belt. The Winchester, Ont., native has been both a coach and a player in the past and will primarily be coaching the men’s team at Western.

In 2004, Latimer, a skip, won both a Bantam Boys Provincial Championship and Ontario Winter Games Championship. He was a skip with Team Ontario in 2005, where he won a U18 National Championship title. In 2007 Latimer won an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association championship in the mixed curling event while representing Algonquin College, and as a skip, was a 2009 Men’s Colts Runner-Up and a men’s Tankard Regional Runner-Up in 2011.

Latimer instructed and coached both Bantam and Juniors at the Winchester Curling club for three years from 2006-09, and was a coach of the Junior Mixed curling team at the 2008 Ontario Mixed Provincials. In 2008 he won the Pat O. Reid Coaching Award at the Ontario Mixed Provincials.

In 2009 Latimer graduated from the Police Foundations program at Algonquin College, and in 2011 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology with a specialty in Law.
