Dr. Matt Waddell has coached with the Mustangs program since 2010, and in his current role of head coach since 2017. In his time with the purple and white Waddell has helped the women's team win nine OUA and five Canadian titles, while also being named OUA Women's Coach of the Year on two occasions, and the Canadian University Rowing Association's Women's Coach of the Year once. He is proud to lead a team that annually features 20+ student-athletes recognized as Academic All-Canadians, and sets a high standard for commitment, teamwork, and excellence both on and off water.
 
In addition to his coaching success with Western, Waddell has also coached internationally, with appearances at the 2014 and 2015 U23 World Championships, and 2016 Senior World Championships. He has attained RowingCanada's Performance Coach level of certification.
 
The Ottawa native has three degrees from Western, with a BA in English Language and Literature, and an MA and PhD in Kinesiology.
