Western Mustangs Sports

Ray Takahashi has been the head coach for the Western Mustangs wrestling team since 1985. The program has thrived under his leadership and guidance.

As a coach, Takahashi has won OUA Women's Coach of the Year, and OUA Men's Coach of the Year five times each, while being named CIS Coach of the Year in 1990. In 2007 he was the Assistant Junior Women's National Coach, at the Junior World Championships in Beijing. 

Before becoming head coach for the Mustangs, Takahashi was a three time Olympic team member, Pan American Games Champion, Commonwealth Games Champion, three time Junior National Champion, six time Senior National Champion, Greco Roman Junoir National Champion, Greco Roman Senior National Champion, four time CIS Champion, and Toledo World Cup silver medalist. He was inducted into the CAWA Hall of Fame in 1992, after being named CAWA Wrester of the Year in both 1978, and 1984.

Takahashi is also currently the head coach at London-Western Wresting Club, a position he has held since 1985. 

Takahashi was raised in a family of accomplished and successful Judo athletes. His father, Masao as well as his brother, Phil, and sister, Tina have all been inducted into the Judo Canada Hall of Fame. In addition, his mother, June and his sister hold the highest female black-belt rank in Canada. His brother Phil was a three-time Olympian in judo with two world medals. He learned how to wrestle from his oldest brother, Allyn. Allyn is a past Canadian Junior Champion wrestler.

Takahashi is married to wife, Janet.  They have two children, Mariko and Steven.
