FEMALE: Amanda Anderson, Women's Basketball (Fifth Year, Psychology, Dover Centre, Ont.)
Amanda Anderson scored a career high 35 points on Feb. 10, finishing the week with an impressive 44-point performance, guiding the Western Mustangs women's basketball to two key wins to lock up second place in the OUA West this past week.
Anderson finished the week with 44 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and five steals. She is second in the province, averaging 18.6 points per game.
On Feb. 10 on graduating seniors night at Alumni Hall, Anderson was phenomenal in her final regular season home game.
She carried her Mustangs, scoring 24 of her points in the second half, including back-to-back threes with just under three minutes remaining to put the game out of reach and complete a 13-4 run.
The fifth-year guard added three rebounds, four assists, and three steals, guiding Western to the comeback win over the visiting McMaster Marauders.
Following the game, Anderson continued to fight - this time to hold back tears. But an emotional Seniors Night speech from Mustangs head coach Stephan Barrie, honouring "one of the greatest Mustangs of all time", put her over the edge.
Joined by her parents and sister on the floor, Barrie said Anderson "fights like it was her life on the line."
"That's what separates here from most of her peers," Barrie said.
Against Waterloo on Feb. 13, Anderson netted nine points and played a very strong defensive game to lift the Mustangs to a 76-66 win over the host Warriors. She added five assists, two steals and five rebounds in the win.
Anderson continues to chase the OUA No. 3 and No. 2 career points milestones. Entering this upcoming weekend's final two regular season games, Anderson's career point total sits at 1,592 still sitting in fourth behind Jennifer Donofrio (RMC 2003-2008) with 1,602 and Jodie Ebeling (Brock 2002-2007) with 1,624. Cassandra Carpenter of Laurentian still holds the OUA record career points with 2,171 from 2003-2008.
