HAMILTON, Ont. – The Western Mustangs overwhelmed their opponents on Oct. 24 at the DBAC Sport Hall, winning their third consecutive game 12-1 over the McMaster Marauders.
Notable performances were played by Martin Giuffre (Calgary, Alta.) and Peter Butler (Toronto) in the men’s singles. Both players defeated their opponent within the second set.
Similarly in the men’s doubles, Giuffre and Toshiro Sembo (Calgary, Alta.) along with Jon Ma (Scarborough, Ont.) and Scott Bennington (Oshawa, Ont.) played comfortably as both doubles teams won straight sets.
The women’s singles played equally well. Jenn Lam (Toronto) controlled the game from the beginning, while new rookie Rebecca Zhang (Windsor, Ont.) started off with a favourable first set.
New rookies, Jenny Chen (Markham, Ont.) and Zhang, proved to be assets to the team as they excelled in their doubles match, winning straight sets.
Head coach Rob Fowler was impressed by the level of play, especially the “convincing sweep of mixed doubles matches [that] concluded the tie.”
The next match will be a home game against York Lions on Oct. 31 in Thames Hall at 10 a.m.
