LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs women's basketball team will host its annual Shoot For a Cure game on Wednesday Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at Thames Hall with funds raised going to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

This is the fourth year of hosting a game on campus. This year's opponent is the York Lions of the OUA East division.

"This Wednesday will be a great opportunity for our program to give back," said Western Mustangs women's basketball head coach Stephan Barrie, now in his fifth season at the helm. "The Shoot For a Cure initiative has been such a tremendous success nationwide in raising funds and awareness for an important cause. It will be the first look at our full squad against CIS competition this season for the community and we are hoping to get strong support at the game for this important cause."

Tickets can be purchased here. Thames Hall has limited seating so fans are encouraged to arrive early.

CIS schools raised over $100,000 to fight breast cancer in the 2009-10 season with Western raising over $3,000.

The CIS Women’s Basketball Coaches Association continues to work on a unified effort in the fight against breast cancer. This is the fourth year for the nationwide Shoot For a Cure games.

Launched in 2007-08 to raise awareness and money to fight the deadly disease. CIS women’s basketball programs had collected $50,320.87 for the CBCF two years ago and $81,512.96 last year, when an additional $11,000 was donated to local groups.

Last year, 36 CIS schools participated by holding one or numerous fundraising games or activities over the course of the campaign.
