FULL BOX SCORE

The Mustangs women opened on a 5-0 run, looking unstoppable early on. But the Gryphons made quick adjustments after calling an early timeout clawing back to take an 8-7 lead at the first technical timeout.

They stayed up and led 16-13 at the second technical timeout but Western tied it up with a great set of serves from sophomore Rebecca Oxland.

Guelph pulled away from there re-establishing an insurmountable three-point lead and won the opening set 25-22 on an Erin Bickle block at the net.

Western stormed back to win the second set 25-17, but the Gryphons returned to dominate the middle-net play in the third and fourth sets winning 25-16 and 25-19 en route to victory.

The Mustangs (0-1) host McMaster (1-0) on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall. The Marauders won their season-opening game in straight sets over Windsor.
