Bid for a second consecutive undefeated season set for Mustangs

Oct. 8: Waterloo at Western, 5 p.m., 7 p.m. / Oct. 9: Laurier at Western, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. - Stronach Park

LONDON, Ont. - History could be made at London’s Stronach Park this weekend as the Western Mustangs women’s fastball team (18 wins, 0 losses) will attempt to complete a second consecutive undefeated regular season.

No other Ontario school has accomplished an undefeated season of fastball and it won’t be easy for the Mustangs this time as they must sweep doubleheaders over a much improved Waterloo Warriors squad (10 wins, 8 losses, currently in 6th place) and the second-place Laurier Golden Hawks (13 wins, 5 losses).

Further, the Warriors need wins to retain their playoff position and Mustangs-Hawks contests have become classic in recent years. Laurier defeated Western in the Ontario Championship game in London in 2007 and the Mustangs returned the favour in Waterloo in 2008.

The Waterloo games go Friday, Oct. 8 at 5 and 7 p.m. and the Laurier games Saturday, Oct 9 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
