COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Laura Dally, an incoming recruit with Western's women's basketball team, scored a team-high 13 points as Canada won the bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women on June 27 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Dally, of Bright's Grove, Ont., will play at guard for the Mustangs in 2010-11 and was a bright spot for Canada in the tournament, lifting Canada to their 81-42 win over Chile for bronze.
A day earlier, Dally scored nine points in Canada's 50-49 semifinal loss to Brazil, helping Canada to build an early lead only to see Brazil outscore Canada 22-9 in the fourth quarter en route to victory. Brazil then lost 81-38 to the U.S. in the championship final.
Dally helped Canada out of an early lull in shooting, going 0-for-10 from the field to start the game and 3-of-22 overall in the first period, adding one assist and five rebounds in the contest.
With the score at 11-8 in Canada's favour after the first 10 minutes, the game was not close for long as Canada opened the second period with an 18-6 run that included two three-pointers from Dally.
Canada, which posted a 4-1 record in the tourney, never looked back.
Dally also scored 12 points and added a pair of steals and four assists in Canada's final round-robin game, a 74-18 win over Costa Rica, on June 25.
