LONDON, Ont. - The Mustangs renewed their rivalry with the Toronto Varsity Blues at home on Saturday, September 18 and came away with two victories in the doubleheader (Game 1: Western 8 U of T 0; Game 2: Western 8 U of T 1).
Junior, pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont) dominated in the first game with 14K in the shutout victory and Junior, Shea Black (Toronto, Ont) picked up the win in Game 2.
Offensively, outfielder, Vanessa Homiak (Orangeville, Ont) had 3 singles, a double, 2 RBI, and scored 3 runs; Junior 2B, Lindsey Martin (London, Ont) had a single, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 RBI, and scored 3 runs; and SS, Steph Reid (Scarborough, Ont) had 2 singles, 2 triples, 2 RBI, and scored 4 runs.
On Sunday, the Mustangs also swept Guelph, 3rd place finishers in 2009, 7-0 and 6-2 on Community Softball League Day. Melinda Stevenson (Brampton, Ont) got the complete game win in Game 1 while Shea Black won Game 2, improving her record to a team best 4-0.
At the plate, Junior, Meg Hewins (Burlington, Ont) had 4 singles, a triple and 2 RBI; Freshman, AJ Anstett recorded 3 singles, a triple, and 3 RBI; and Sophomore, Tricia MacKay hit a single, a triple, and scored 2 runs to lead the Mustangs.
Currently, the Mustangs sit alone is first place with a 10-0 record. Next action is Saturday, Sept 25 at York (2pm) and Sunday, Sept 26 at Queen’s. Both are doubleheaders.
