Road wins at York, Queen's keep Western undefeated

Sat, Sept 25, Game 1: Western 8 York 2; Game 2: Western 9 York 0; Sun, Sept 25, Game 1: Western 6 Queen's 0; Game 2: Western 12 Queen's 3

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Mustangs (14-0) continued their winning ways sweeping York (6-6) on Sat, Sept 25 (8-2; 9-0) and Queen’s (4-7) on Sun, Sept 26 (6-0; 12-3).  Shea Black (Toronto, Ont) got the win in Game 1 vs York and Mel Stephenson (Brampton, Ont) picked up a save.  Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont) was 3 outs away from a perfect game in Game 2 and finished with a 1 hitter.  That was the only York player to reach base as Yetman struck out the next batter, induced a pop up to 3B, and struck out the final batter for a total of 14K in the shutout victory.  It was her second win of the season in as many starts (she also fanned 14 in her initial start).

Mustang bats were working as well as home runs were hit by Steph Reid (Scarborough, Ont) (2), Leslie Hanson (Oakville, Ont), and Julianne Proniuk.  Meg Hewins (Burlington, Ont) reached base in all 7 of her plate appearances which included 1 triple, 3 singles, and two walks).

Against Queens’ Stevenson picked up her 4th win in Game 1 and Black her 6th victory in Game 2.  Offensively, the Mustangs continued right where they left off on Saturday, pounding out 22 hits, including triples by Hanson (2), Hewins, Proniuk, and Tricia MacKay (Embro, Ont) and doubles by AJ Anstett (Cargill, Ont) and Rachel Meyer (Toronto, Ont).

Next action is 2pm Saturday, Oct 2 at Brock and noon Sunday, Oct 3 at McMaster (both are doubleheaders).
