Vaughan, No. 3 Mustangs drop heartbreaker to No. 2 Windsor

Jan. 19: Windsor 75 Western 69

WINDSOR, Ont. - The No. 3 Western Mustangs could not overcome the halftime adjustments of the No. 2 Windsor Lancers losing 75-69 in Windsor on Wednesday night.

Jenny Vaughan led the Mustangs with 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Matteke Hutzler had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Mustangs are now 11-2 on the season, still in first place in the OUA West. Laurier and Windsor are now right behind the Mustangs with 10-3 and 10-2 records respectively.

Western got off to a great start, controlling the pace of the game and leading 23-11 after the first quarter.

Windsor recovered in the second half, working the ball in the post and outscoring the Mustangs 21-14. Western still held a five point advantage at half 37-32 even with the strong Lancers quarter.

Not wanting to lose at home the Lancers came out firing on all cylinders in the third quarter putting up 28 points in the quarter to take a 60-53 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs battled back to make it a one possession game late in the fourth quarter but a number of bad bounces went the Lancers way and they dropped the game 75-69.

Western will look to rebound from this tough loss on the road this weekend against Laurier on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. They will be back in action at home on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.
