Selfe leads Mustang to 70-62 win over Golden Hawks

LONDON, Ont. – Western Mustangs guard Jackyln Selfe’s 20-point-game, led the Mustangs to a 70-62 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Jan. 22 at the Wilfred Laurier Athletic Complex.

In addition to her 20 points, Selfe also added three rebounds and three assists, while draining three of her four three-point attempts.

The Mustangs dominated the offense in the first quarter taking an early 26-18 lead. Laurier battled back in the second, outscoring Western 17-12, and narrowing the Mustang lead to 38-35 at half.

In the third, Mustang offense excelled as Western outscored Laurier 21-13, extending their lead to 59-48.
A fourth quarter effort by the Golden Hawks, netting 14 points, was not enough, as the Mustangs added another 11 ending the game with a 70-62 victory.

Despite her five fouls, Matteke Hutzler had six rebounds, while contributing 12 points and shooting 100 percent at the free-throw line. Lacey Knox added another 13 points for Western.

Up next, the Mustangs will look to defeat the Golden Hawks again when these two teams rematch on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
