Mustangs clinch second, doubleheader with Lakehead this weekend

Feb. 18: Lakehead vs. Western, 6 p.m.; Feb. 19: Lakehead vs. Western 6 p.m.

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs enter the final weekend of the regular season with a Friday and Saturday matchup against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The 17-3 Mustangs will host 13-7 Lakehead at 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 & 19 at 6 p.m in Alumni Hall.

The Mustangs have clinched second place in the OUA West and will spend this weekend fine tuning some things for the playoffs. The Mustangs have averaged 72.9 points per game while giving up just 53.4 per game.

They are first in the OUA with a 45.1% field goal percentage and a 37.8% three-point percentage. 

The Mustangs will honour their lone senior on Saturday night as Matteke Hutzler will graduate this year. She leads the Mustangs shooting 57% from the field while averaging 13.3 points and seven rebounds per game.

With guard Jacklyn Selfe's 13 points per game out with an injury the Mustangs will rely on Jenny Vaughan, who averages 12.8 points and 4 assists per game, and first year guard Laura Dally to step up.

Western will receive a bye in the quarterfinals and will advance to the OUA West Final Four hosted by Windsor. They will play the highest remaining seed on Feb. 26 at 4 p.m.
