Weekend Preview: Mustangs vs. Waterloo and Brock

After a close five set loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues last weekend the Western Mustangs women’s volleyball team returns home for their third weekend of OUA regular season play. The Mustangs open up the weekend at home against the Waterloo Warriors before heading on the road for a rematch with the Brock Badgers.

Waterloo Warriors – Friday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m.

Coming off of a 7-11 record for the 2011-2012 season, the Waterloo Warriors step into the 2012-2013 season with a fairly balanced roster with six veterans and eight new recruits ready to improve on last year’s record and earn a spot in the post season playoffs for the first time since 2010. Waterloo welcomes back captain Kristen Sheffield who earned 69 kills in 40 sets with 50 digs for the 2011-2012 campaign, along with middle Danielle Kamps who is one of the top blockers in the OUA. Waterloo has Warriors from around the globe this season, Clara Tse, transferring from Hong Kong brings her experience from the beach volleyball game to the Waterloo squad.

The Warriors started their 2012-2013 season with a 3-1 win over the Guelph Gryphons where Tse led the Warriors with 14 kills on 28 attempts along with nine digs and one block.  The next two games were not in Waterloo’s favour as they fell to Ryerson in a straight set loss, Kamps led with nine kills and a game high of three blocks, followed by a 3-1 loss to an experienced Ottawa squad. Tse again led with 11 kills, one block and 12 digs, giving the Warriors a season record of 1-2.
