LONDON, Ont. – The Mustangs swim returned to their new home on Saturday afternoon hosting the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday in a dual meet held at the Western Student Recreation Centre.

The meet resulted in a split, with the Western women's team defeating University of Toronto with a score of 80-69 points. U of T would come out on top in the men's rankings, with a score of 83-64. U of T also narrowly edged out Western in the overall team standings, with a mere 8 point difference of 152-144.

After seeding for lanes were determined, the meet commenced at 2 pm. Saturday afternoon. Western started the meet strong, with the men winning the first race, the 400 Medley relay while the women's Mustangs teams finished second and third in the same event.

The day’s fifth event, the women's 100 M freestyle would prove to be successful for the Mustangs with Ashleigh Dunnington and Emma Sproule would finish first and second respectively. Sproule would place first in a later event, the women's 200 M freestyle. The women's relay team also finished first in the 200 M freestyle.

Jake Armstrong would take first place in the men's 100 M breaststroke by nearly three seconds ahead of his nearest opponent while Robert Wise finished with two first place results, one in the men's 800 M freestyle as well as the 200 M freestyle event.

In the 100 M backstroke, Mustang Aaron Rode narrowly finished first by a mere .11 seconds ahead of the second place finisher David Riley from Toronto. Rode would also win first in the men's 100M butterfly.

Other first place winners for the Mustangs included Katie Keeping in the 50 M freestyle, Jennifer McNaughton in the 200 M butterfly, and Paulina Bond in the 100 M butterfly.

With exams now quickly approaching the Mustangs' swim teams will not compete again until the New Year.
