Mustangs defeat Lions on the road

Today the Women’s Mustangs were finally able to defeat the York Lions, 2-0. The last time the Mustangs played the Lions the game was tied 0-0.

York is a great team and definitely a worthy opponent. The first half was full of pressure, teamwork, and foot skills, but no goals were scored.

The second half was a battle. At 60 minutes Anna Keller scored the first goal for the Mustangs off a volley into the top corner. York tried to retaliate with some pressure, but Western’s defense held strong.

Coach Martin Painter described the second goal: “Jessica Trejo doubled the lead in the eighty-ninth minute from the penalty spot after some great work from Lauren Winquist."

Western plays an away game against Guelph tomorrow at 1pm where they hope to repeat their 1-0 win from September 23rd.
