After a shutout victory over the University of Ontario Institute of Technology to open the season on Friday, the Western Mustangs women's soccer team are still undefeated, earning a 2-2 draw with the Windsor Lancers on Monday night in Windsor.
The Mustangs got off to a rocky start against the Lancers when Kelly Riccardi opened up the scoring for Windsor only three minutes into the game. The Mustangs answered back with only a few minutes remaining in the first half as Marjolein Buiter scored her first goal of the season to send the game to halftime tied at one.
Lauren Winqvist put Western ahead in the 56th minute with her second goal in as many games. However Windsor was quick to respond, as Tina Vagnini netted the game’s final goal to make it a 2-2 final.
Next up for the Mustangs are road games against Brock on September 8, and McMaster on September 9. Both days the women’s squad start things off at 1:00 p.m. before the men’s team plays at 3:15 p.m.
