Box Score LONDON, Ont.- The Western Mustangs women’s volleyball team started the new year off right by defeating the Windsor Lancers 3-1 on home court. Despite some adversity, the Mustangs rose above their opponents in four sets to claim a second victory over Windsor this regular season.
The last time these two teams met, the Mustangs trotted over the Lancers, but these two teams have a history of tight, competitive matches. And as they say, history repeats itself, which was proved tonight as Western grabbed another win over Windsor.
Set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-7, 30-28

Rebecca Oxland earning a team high 21.5 points with 18 kills and 15 digs.
Stepping onto home court for the first time this year, the Mustangs trailed the Lancers early. With Windsor leading 10-4, Western called a time-out allowing them to reorganize and attempt a comeback. At the technical timeout, the Lancers led 16-10. With the Lancers earning the set point, the Mustangs called another timeout. The Mustangs could only manage to score one more point before the Lancers took the opening set 25-19.
After losing the first set of the match, the Mustangs saddled up for a fresh start in the second. Windsor, likely seeking redemption from their last meeting with Western, played hard. The two teams exchanged points early in the set before the Mustangs galloped into the lead. Leading by four at the technical time out, Western remained in control with the aid of left-side

Tied set for set, the Mustangs started of the third set with a quick seven-point lead forcing the Lancers into a time out. Trumping their visitors by 12 points at the technical time out, the Mustangs showed perseverance and kept their edge the entire set. The white and purple quickly earned the third set 25-7.
Up two sets, the Mustangs started the fourth set off again with an early lead, and again, Windsor called an early timeout. Windsor tried to catch Western, but was unsuccessful and trailed 12-16 at the technical time out. Near the end of the set, with the Mustangs in control, Windsor showed a burst of energy and trailed the Mustangs by only three points. With the set now a point-for-point affair, the Lancers eventually evened the score at 24-24. It was a close battle, but Western came out on top winning the set 30-28.
Leading the Windsor Lancers was Kaila Seguin with a game high of 23 points earning 19 kills on 59 attempts and 16 digs.
The Mustangs next challenge will be the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, January 19 at 12:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
