WATERLOO, Ont. - Four Mustangs found the back of the net in Saturday afternoon's match-up against the Waterloo Warriors to propel the women's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout victory on the road.
Â
It was the second time that the Warriors and the Mustangs met on the pitch this season after the Mustangs battled the Warriors to another shutout victory in their 2-0 season-opening win in late August.
Â
With the win, the CIS No. 3 Mustangs now rise to a 10-0-5 record in the OUA West Division while the Warriors fall to 2-12-1 on the season. Saturday's win marks the team's fifteenth consecutive undefeated match of the regular season and there is now just one game standing between the Mustangs and a perfect regular season.
Â
Jaynie Vandewalle put Western on the scoreboard almost immediately after the starting whistle as she netted the first goal of the game less than a minute into the first half. Despite strong offensive pressure the Mustangs were unable to further their lead before the break.
Â
The second half of the contest was an entirely different story however, as
Sam Taylor secured a 2-0 lead over the Warriors when she scored a goal just one minute into the second half. The Mustangs continued their momentum, taking a three-goal advantage when
Anna Keller tallied another Mustangs goal. Â Despite the lead, the Mustangs would not let up as
Becca Jefferson added the fourth and final goal of the game at the 87-minute mark, securing a 4-0 shutout victory.
Â
The Mustangs will be back in action on Sunday, October 20 as they take on the Guelph Gryphons on home turf at Huron Flats Field at 1:00 p.m. Tomorrow's match-up will be the last OUA regular season game of the 2013 season for the Mustangs before heading into playoffs.Â
