Mustangs shut out Lancers to extend unbeaten streak to 10 games

WINDSOR, Ont. – Goals from four different players helped the Western Mustangs women's soccer team continue their unbeaten season with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Windsor Lancers on Wednesday night.

With the win the Mustangs remain in first place in the OUA West and improve to 6-0-4 on the season while the Lancers fall to 4-4-2. It was also Western's second win of the year against Windsor as the Mustangs posted a 6-0 victory at TD Stadium on the season's opening weekend.

Lauren Winquist, Amanda Boyle, Sarah Deakin and Aoi Ichiyama contributed the offence in the win with Tori Edgar recording her sixth shutout of the season.

Winquist put Western on the scoreboard early in the first half netting a goal at the 13-minute mark. Before the break Boyle increased the Mustangs lead as she racked up the second goal of the game and her fifth of the season to make it 2-0 Western heading into the break.

The Mustangs momentum continued into the second half and Deakin added Western's third goal of the game at the 57-minute mark. Ichiyama followed up just four minutes later with a fourth consecutive Western goal, giving the team a 4-0 advantage over the Lancers. Despite Windsor's best efforts to respond, the Lancer's were unable to sneak past the strong Mustangs defence, and the game concluded with a 4-0 shutout victory for Western.

The Mustangs will be back in action Sunday, October 6, at 1:00 p.m. as they travel to Guelph to face-off against the Gryphons
