Game Preview: Western heads on the road to face the Lancers

The Western Mustangs women's volleyball team will be looking for a win on Friday as they hit the road to face the Windsor Lancers in their fourth game of the season.

The Mustangs enter the matchup with a 0-3 regular season record and will be looking for their first win of the regular season as they head into Friday's game. Despite the losses, the Mustangs have played well so far this season against some tough teams, including a close 3-1 loss to the OUA West top-ranked Waterloo Warriors, proving that they can compete with the top teams in the western conference.

Fourth-year outside hitter Stephanie Kreuter, who holds a spot in the OUA's top 20 players this season with 27 kills and 3.17 points per set, will be hoping to use her talent and experience to lead the young Western team to their first victory of the season. Kreuter recorded 3.5 points per set last season with a 20% kill percentage, ending the year ranked 13th in the OUA.

Second-year left side Kenzie MacDonald is the second-highest scoring player for the Mustangs this year, averaging 2.83 points per set and counting 28 kills after three games. Close behind is fellow sophomore Candice Scott with 2.5 points per set and a 31% kill rate.

The Western squad will be looking for a big win against the Lancers to prove that they can play with the top teams in Ontario. The Mustangs will take on the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013 in away game action.

Windsor Lancers: Friday, November 1 - 7:00 p.m.

With two wins and two losses in regular season action so far this year the Lancers are tied for first in the OUA West Division with Waterloo and will be looking for their third win of the season against the Mustangs. The Lancers have already proven themselves to be a tough team to beat after toppling the Mustangs 3-1 in their last meeting in 2013.

Despite starting the season with two consecutive losses, the Lancers rebounded to win their last two matchups, recording a 3-1 victory over McMaster and a 3-2 victory over Waterloo. Leading the Windsor squad this year is senior Kaila Seguin with 3.89 points per set and a 22% kill percentage, followed by sophomore Shannon Dean with 3.13 points per game and a 33% kill percentage. In her rookie season with the Lancers last year Dean racked up 149 kills, 167 digs, and 180 points in 65 games played to earn a spot on the OUA All-Rookie team in 2013.

The Lancers will be looking to maintain their place atop the OUA West Division while the Mustangs will be looking to establish themselves as tough team to beat as both squads prepare for Friday's matchup.
