LONDON, Ont - The Western Mustangs men's basketball team matched up against the York Lions Sunday evening in an 84-64 loss at Alumni Hall. It was the Mustangs' fourth OUA regular season game after falling short against the Queen's Gaels on Friday night, pushing the team into a four-game losing streak.
"York exposed some of our weaknesses; our execution was not there, and we didn't get the ball to where we needed to," said Western head coach Brad Campbell about his team's performance tonight.
The first half saw the Mustangs keeping the game close by pressuring the ball and not letting the paint become a safe zone for the Lions' offense. Rookie guard
Rashayne Case led the Mustangs after the first two quarters with nine points and one rebound, yet York held a 40-29 advantage heading into the break.
The Lions came out strong in the third and fourth quarters pushing their lead to 20 with Richard Iheadindu dropping 24 points for his team. The Mustan's had a tough time getting to the basket but the whole team managed to put some points on the board with
Peter Scholtes and Case leading the team with 14 and 12 points respectively. The game ended with a score of 84-64 in favour of the York Lions.
York Lion Richard Iheadindu led both teams with 24 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, while Aaron Rado followed with 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
With tonight's loss, the Mustangs now sit tied for last place in the OUA regular season alongside Guelph with a record of 0-4.
The Mustangs will take a break until Friday, Nov. 15, when they take on the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto with an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
