Toronto tops Western 79-70

Box Score TORONTO -- The Western Mustangs men's basketball team took yet another loss Friday night against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, 79-70, at Varsity Centre, pushing their OUA regular-season record to 0-5.

Senior guard Quinn Henderson led the Mustangs in the first half with eight points, and second-year guard Eric McDonald was right behind with five points and one assist. The Varsity Blues proved hard to beat with a 41.4% field goal percentage as the Mustangs were down 39-23 shooting 30.8% in the paint going into the second half. 

The second half began with a more confident Mustangs team as Henderson, Greg Morrow, and Peter Scholtes all put double digits on the score sheet with 18, ten, and 17 respectively.

The Mustangs offense shot an improved 39.1% in the paint with 31 bench points in the half, but the defensive effort was lacking protection outside the perimetre where the Varsity Blues found exposure.

The end of the game resulted in a 79-70 loss for the Mustangs, placing them in last place in the OUA's 2013-2014 West Division.

The Mustangs will remain in Toronto to play the Ryerson Rams on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, in their sixth regular season game with the hopes of putting a win on the board. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
