Western began their home season with two run rule victories over Windsor (7-0 and 11-0) on Wednesday evening. The Mustangs scored 2 runs in the first inning and cruised to the 4 1/2 inning win powered by Tara Cress (Brampton, ON), Jenn Wakefield, (St Thomas, ON), and Kara Stirling (London, ON) with 2 hits apiece. Shannon Davidson (Whitby, ON) added a triple. Stacie Cox (3-1; London, ON) pitched 4 shutout innings and freshman Mac Hawkins (1-0; Whitby, ON) pitched one inning of shutout relief.
In Game 2, The Mustangs started quickly scoring 9 runs in the first two innings and collecting 14 hits in the 5 inning game. Brittany Hicks (Dundas, ON) recorded 3 hits and 2 RBI while Davidson and Tricia MacKay (Embro, ON) added two hits apiece. Freshmen, Lauren Sovereign (Brinsley, ON) and Rachelle Waskevich (Guelph, ON) each picked up a hit. MacKay and Stirling each drove in 2 runs.and Stirling (3-0) got the shutout in the circle.Â
Next action for the Mustangs is at home (Stronach Park) on Saturday, Sept 21 at 2 and 4pm vs McMaster and on Sunday, Sept 22 vs Brock at 11am and 1pm. Sunday the Mustangs welcome youth ball players from the Community Softball League for a variety of between inning and between game activities/contests.
