Mustangs earn 0-0 draw with McMaster to stay undefeated

HAMILTON, Ont., - Tori Edgar earned her fifth shutout of the season as the Western Mustangs women's soccer team kept their undefeated record in tact, battling the McMaster Marauders to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at Ron Joyce Stadium.

The tie was the Mustangs third of the season giving the team a 4-0-3 record and puts the team into a three-way tie with Guelph and Laurier for first place in the OUA West Division. The Marauders are only two points back from the division leaders with a 3-1-4 record.

In the first half McMaster's Emma Mangialardi unleashed the only two Marauders shots on Mustangs goaltender Tori Edgar, while Western's Tianna Deluzio and Paige Howard fired one shot each on Mauraders goaltender Brittany Duffy.

Both teams came out of the break playing a strong defensive side of the game, as neither Western nor McMaster's offence could snake through the opposing team's defence to get a single shot on net. When the game clock ran down both teams walked away with a 0-0 draw and Western increased their unbeaten streak to seven games this season.

The Mustangs will be back in action Friday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. when they face off against the York Lions in the first ever game on Western's new Huron Flats Field.
