Mustangs Women's Soccer remains undefeated after victory over UOIT

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs women's soccer team was victorious over the UOIT Ridgebacks in a rainy afternoon affair on Saturday, Sept. 7 at TD Stadium. Western remains undefeated after the 3-0 win while also continuing their early season shutout streak allowing zero goals in three games. The win also follows the Mustangs' impressive 6-0 win over Windsor the previous weekend.

The Mustangs women's soccer team has started the 2013 season strong, coming into today's game with a 2-0 record and a second place ranking in the OUA. The team boasts an impressive eight goals in their first two games and their commanding offence was on display again today against the Ridgebacks. The Mustangs ended the first half of the game with two points on the scoreboard thanks to an early goal by Western's Becca Jefferson and another by Adrianna Giuffre to cement the lead 2-0 heading into the half.

Although the two goals scored in the first half would ultimately be enough, Paige Howard added a third Mustangs goal in the last few minutes of the game. Mustangs goalie Tori Edgar once again did not allow a goal in the game on three saves, marking the third straight game she has shut out the opposing team.

When asked what he attributes his team's flawless season to so far, head coach Martin Painter commented, "We have a good team, we have some talented players. Defensively, we've been very good, with nine goals scored for [the team] and none against. We just execute well on both sides of the field."

The Mustangs play again tomorrow in regular season OUA action as they take on the York Lions at York Stadium in Toronto at 1:00 p.m.
