Preview: Western welcomes McMaster and Brock to Alumni Hall

After two straight victories on the road at Algoma, the Western Mustangs women's basketball team hopes to keep their winning streak moving along when they return home to play the McMaster Marauders Wednesday night at Alumni Hall.

The team's offense sprang to life in last week's series, as they outscored the Thunderbirds 130-94. Mackenzie Puklicz led team scoring over the two games with 22 points. She also picked up 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Her 10.8 points per game average puts her just behind Caroline Wolynski's 11.3 on the team leaderboard.

Victoria Heine has been an asset to the Mustangs both offensively and defensively. Her 10 points in Saturday's game against the Thunderbirds was a personal season-high. Her 43.8% shooting percentage leads the team with 5 or more field goal attempts per game. Off the glass, she's second in team rebounds with 4.3 per game, trailing only Puklicz whose nine-rebound game on Saturday helped push her ahead.

Wednesday, November 26 - vs. McMaster Marauders at 6 p.m. - Watch at OUA.tv

The Mustangs look for their first home win when they take on a McMaster team that leads the OUA Central with a record of 5-1 and has won their last three games. In the latest CIS poll, the Marauders have been ranked 7th in the nation. But despite their record, the Marauders have been challenged defensively, giving up 354 points on the season to rank fourth-worst in the OUA.

The challenge for Western will be in subduing the tag team of McMaster's Hilary Hanaka and Danielle Bolago. They sit at number 4 and 5 on the points per game leaderboard with 17 and 16.2 respectively.

Tip off for the game is at 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall.

Saturday, November 29 - vs. Brock Badgers at 6 p.m. - Watch at OUA.tv

On Saturday, the Mustangs play host to the Brock Badgers who face a challenge in Windsor the night before. The Badgers have been hot and cold this season with a record of 2-3, having most recently defeated CIS 10th ranked Queens 73-64. Look for them to move the ball around. Brock averages 15.6 assists per game, the 3rd best in the OUA.

Tip off for that game is 6 p.m. on Saturday, November, 29. Both games can be watched on OUA.tv.
