Box Score LONDON, Ont.- With just four games left in their regular season, the Western women's volleyball team hosted York University at Alumni Hall, defeating the CIS no. 9 ranked Lions 3-2 on Saturday night.Â

"That game was a product of training really hard and playing tough teams in the last few matches," said Head Coach
Melissa Bartlett. "It's definitely a great confidence booster going into tomorrow as well."

The Lions took an immediate lead in the first set with 15-5 being the largest deficit of the game. The major turning point came at 10-18 when
Serena Smith started her serving run and Western caught up to tie it 24 all. The set moved into an intense tie-breaker that saw the Mustangs come out on top winning 27-25.
Kenzie MacDonald was an essential part of success, adding 6 digs to defend against York's strong offence during the first set.

In the second set, rallying continued between the teams as they played point for point until York took a technical time-out. The Mustangs continued to keep up with the Lions after the break with
Serena Smith serving three aces, but York ultimately took a 3-point lead to win the set 25-22.

With the two teams tied 1-1, the nail-biting third set saw York capitalize on their offensive strengths as well as Western's technical errors. The Lions took the set finishing 25-21 and the game moved into it's fourth, putting the Mustangs under pressure to secure another tie.

The Western team took a 6-point unanswered lead in the fourth set and was determined to equalize to move into a fifth. The Mustangs continued 11 points ahead of the Lions until the technical time out and eventually won 25-14, proving that they weren't going to back down on this night.

The deciding fifth set saw the two teams battling fiercely for victory but it was the Mustangs coming out on top in the end. The Mustangs made few mistakes in their final set on their way to a 15-12 win in the set and a 3-2 victory in the match.

The Mustangs continue their final home weekend taking on Nipissing tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
