Mustangs defeat Waterloo for third straight win, move into tie for fourth

Box Score WATERLOO, Ont. - After last weekend's home sweep against York and Nipissing the Western Mustangs women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to three games, defeating the Waterloo Warriors 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22) on Friday night at Waterloo's Physical Activities Complex.

Western now sits tied with the Brock Badgers for fourth place in the OUA West with 12 points each. The Mustangs have a game in hand on the Badgers, and now control their own fate as a win over the Gryphons on Saturday night will give them sole possession of fourth and clinch the final playoff spot in the West Division.

The Warriors battled back in a second set that saw the Mustangs commit 16 technical errors that helped Waterloo gain points on the scoreboard. Despite recording two less kills than the Mustangs the Warriors fought their way to the top of the second set, taking it 25-17.

The fourth set was the closest of the match with both team fighting to pick up a crucial two points in the standings. Both offences cooled off slightly compared to the third set, with Western earning nine kills to Waterloo's seven, however the Mustangs prevailed 25-22 to take the game 3-1.
