LONDON, Ont. - As the 2014 CFL Draft quickly approaches the league hosted their annual series of combines this past week with seven Mustangs players getting the chance to show off their skills to the nine CFL teams. Three Mustangs,
Dylan Ainsworth,
Beau Landry, and
Brian Marshall, were invited to the national combine over the weekend while
Ryan Northfield,
Joe Circelli,
Andrew Thibaudeau and
Bryce Lawrence took part in the Toronto regional combine on Thursday.
Of the three Mustangs invited to the national prospect showcase, defensive lineman Ainsworth impressed in the physical testing against the top players from across Canada as he placed third overall in the broad jump test. The Delta, B.C. native also stood out in the one-on-one drills as he demonstrated his power and explosiveness. Ainsworth had a strong 2013 campaign with the Mustangs that saw him post 16 tackles, four sacks, and seven tackles for loss as part of a Mustangs defensive line that saw three of its starters earn OUA all-star status. Western's single season sack record holder with 9.5 in 2012, Ainsworth was ranked at number 15 on the CFL Scouting Bureau's winter rankings released in January.
