Mustang Softball opens 2014 with two wins over Windsor

Davidson blasts her first home run of 2014
WINDSOR, Ont. - The Mustangs charged out of the gates with two wins over the weekend, beating the Lancers twice in Windsor on Sunday to get the season started on a high note.

Senior Stacie Cox (London, ON) started 2014 right where she left off last year as the National Championship MVP with an 8k, complete game, one-hitter in the Mustangs' season opening 7-1 win on Sunday afternoon.  Cox had a perfect game into the 5th inning and kept the Lancer hitters confused throughout the entire game.

Western scored two in the first inning on RBI by seniors Shannon Davidison (Whitby, ON) and Jenn Wakefield (St Thomas, ON), one in fourth on an RBI single by Freshman Robyn Wood (Guelph, ON), and broke it open in the seventh with a solo HR by Davidson, an RBI single by Brittany Hicks (Dundas, ON) and a two run HR by Wakefield.

In game 2, Freshman Rachael Jacques (Barrie, ON) had a very impressive outing in her first University game, striking out 10 while scattering 3 hits and allowing only 1 run (unearned) in the Mustangs' 3-1 victory.  Hicks had two RBI and Davidson added another for Western.

Next action for the Mustangs is Saturday, Sept 13 (2 & 4pm) vs the 2013 Provincial and National Finalist Ottawa Gee Gees and on Sunday, Sept 14 vs Carleton (11am & 1pm).  All 4 games are at London's Stronach Park.
