Western prepares for their contests against the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues with hopes to extend their winning streak after a thrilling victory against the Windsor Lancers on Friday.

The Mustangs currently top the OUA West Division Standings with a record of 3-0 and six points. They sit two points ahead of the Laurier Golden Hawks and Windsor Lancers who both have four points.

Caroline Wolynski and
Mackenzie Puklicz have continuously shown their talent on the court, making an average 17.3 and 17.0 points per game, respectively. Mustang athlete of the week,
Maddy Horst played the hero in their victory against the Lancers last Friday, making a last second three-point shot to bring the team back in the lead. She currently sits fourth in Mustang scoring with 10.3 points per game, following first-year
Julia Curran with 11.3 points.

Curran lead the Mustang defence against the Warriors, recording a team-high 11 rebounds. She leads the teams defence going into the weekend with 8 rebounds per game, pairing well with
Victoria Heine who records 7.0 rebounds per game. The team has found much of their success at the free throw line, going 72.5% as a team. More than half the team have at least a 50% success rate at the line, with Curran showing definite signs of shooting skills with a 83.3% success rate.

The Mustangs have been challenged with heavy defence on their best players, but have overcome these obstacles to maintain large leads and keep up individual high scoring. They hope to continue their winning streak over the weekend and keep themselves in first place.

The Ryerson Rams currently sit first place and undefeated in the OUA East Division Standings. They are tied with the Queen's Gaels with six points. The Rams have been finding shooting success in their contests, defeating Toronto and Waterloo with over a 20 point lead in each game.

Ryerson veteran Keneca Pingue- Giles and second-year player Sofia Paska lead the Rams with 15 points per game, with Paska scoring the game-high 16 points in their contest against the Waterloo Warriors.

Paska also leads the teams defence with 8.3 rebounds per game. Pingue-Giles also records 5.3 steals per game, making the two a threat offensively and defensively. Five other players have manager to grab over 4 rebounds off the glass, extending their chances to score and keep a lead over their opponents.

The Rams have found success at the free throw line, with five players making over 70% of their shots at the line. However, their success at the three-point line hasn't gone as well, only shooting a 10.4% success rate, compared to the Mustangs 34% success rate.

The Toronto Varsity Blues currently have a record of 1-2, with their two losses at the hands of the Ryerson Rams and McMaster Marauders. They sit in second place, four points behind Ryerson and Queen's in the OUA East Division Standings.

Third-year Varsity Blues player Rahshida Atkinson leads the teams scoring with 12.3 points per game, scoring the team high 21 points in their contest against the Marauders. Emily Piccini and Diedre Edwards follow with 11.7 and 11.0 points per game, also coming after their teammate in scoring in their recent game against the Marauders.

The team's defence is one of their better attributes, making 46.3 rebounds per game, with seven players making over four rebounds a game. Senior player Abena Addo leads the team with 7 rebounds, in which 4.3 are on the offensive helping her team make several attempts at the basket.

The Varsity Blues must up their defence to give them a fighting chance against the high scoring Mustang players. Their key players will make an important part of making plays around the arc and under the basket.
