Finishing up the regular season with a road trip to Toronto and North Bay, the Mustangs are looking to the weekend for their final opportunity to improve their record before heading into playoffs.
Following last weekend's split results of one win and one loss, the Mustangs are currently tied for fourth place with Windsor in OUA West with a 5-12 record.Â
First year Kelsey Veltman continues to lead the Mustang scoresheet, averaging 3.6 points per set. The 6'2 middle from Brantford also continues to hold down the title of number one CIS solo blocker, with a total of 41. Fellow rookie Aja Gyimah's performance throughout recent matches has kept her in second place among the Mustangs in points per set, with an average of 2.8.Â
Meanwhile, setter Katherine Tsiofas has recorded 436 assists throughout the season, averaging 8.55 per set.Â
As a team, Western averages 11.10 kills per set and 2.08 blocks per set. Dominating at the net, the Mustangs also hold fourth place within the CIS in total blocks as the team has a cumulative total of 85.Â

Sitting at fifth place in OUA East with a 9-8 record, the York lions have proven to be a force on the court.Â
As a team, the Lions outhit the Mustangs with an average of 12 kills per set. With 2.24 blocks per set, they can be expected to cut off the typically point-earning Mustang attacks.Â
Senior middle Brittney Hopley leads York in points, averaging 3.9 per set, with Michelle Pierce close behind with 3.6 points per set. Representing the Lions on the CIS leaderboards are Hopley – who sits in third place in solo blocks (32) – and Michelle Pierce who follows in sixth place (28).Â
While they have individual representation on the CIS boards, York also holds a series of titles as a team. The Lions currently place seventh overall in kills per set (12), eighth in assists per set (11.02), eighth in service aces per set (1.98), seventh in digs per set (16.34), sixth in solo blocks (82), and sixth in points per set (16.2).Â
Saturday's match takes place at York's Tate MacKenzie Gymnasium, with the first serve scheduled for 2pm. Fans can stream the game live at OUA.tv.Â
Western vs Nipissing – Sunday February 8 at 12pmÂ
Holding down sixth place in OUA East with a 5-12 record that matches that of the Mustangs, Nipissing is looking to break free of their four game losing streak – all of which ended in three sets.Â
As a team, the Nipissing Lakers average 8.05 kills per set and 1.27 blocks per set. Statistically outmatched at the net, the Lakers can be expected to rally in the backcourt to keep the match competitive.Â
Sophomore Tracy Hammerton leads Nipissing in points, averaging 2.7 per set. Following behind her is Lindsay Vanderweide, who averages 2.4 points.Â
