Two Western wrestlers are slated for international competition this weekend as both
Steven Takahashi and Josh Proctor will compete at the 2015 Senior Pan Am Championships, April 24-26. Takahashi will compete in the Freestyle 57 kg division while Proctor will compete in the Greco Roman 71 kg division.
Takahashi is currently ranked number two in Canada, and won Bronze at the 2014 Pan Am Championships held in Mexico City last summer. As a Mustang, Takahashi has taken home gold medals from each of the OUA and CIS championships he competed in over his five-year career. His career accomplishments were celebrated at the 74th Annual Western Athletic Awards Gala on April 7, when he won the Dr. Claude Brown Memorial Trophy for making the greatest contribution to intercollegiate athletics during his time at Western.
Proctor, a CIS 2014 gold medalist and member of London-Western Wrestling Club, defeated teammate
Alec Bauer in the gold medal round of the 2015 Greco Roman Senior National Championships to take first place
Mustang wrestling alumni coordinator and Western Wrestling Wall of Fame member, Bill Hogarth, was named the Team Leader of the Canadian contingent, which includes a full team in the three styles, Freestyle, Freestyle Women and Greco Roman.
