Western swept Ryerson, Guelph, and Toronto this past weekend to bring their season record to 23-0. With one week remaining in the regular season the Mustangs have already secured first place in the league, scoring 190 runs and allowing 11.
On Friday night, the Ryerson Rams dropped both games to Western by scores of 13-0 and 11-0.
In game one,
Robyn Wood recorded three hits, including a triple, four RBIs, and scored three runs while
Courtney Reynolds had a double, a single, three RBIs, and scored twice.
Briar Balas added 2 hits, an RBI, and scored two runs for the Mustangs.
Rachael Jacques and
Laura Chappel split the game in the circle to allow only one hit from Ryerson.
Part two of the doubleheader saw
Holly Perry and
Riley Cunningham each score three times and Jayme Wells record two RBIs for the purple and white.
Sara Contini gave up just 1 Ryerson hit to pick up the shutout victory.
On Saturday, the Mustangs took on Guelph to come away with two more by scores of 9-0 and 8-0.
The first matchup saw Wood continue her impressive batting with three hits, four RBIs, and one run scored. Balas and
Alana Cress picked up two RBI each, Reynolds scored three times, and Shannon Davidson put up two more for Western. Jacques got the win in the circle, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 12.
Game two saw Davidson hit two home runs and record four RBIs to lead the offence. Wells added three RBIs, while
Kristen Pearn and
Emma Murray each scored twice. Contini scattered three hits and struck out six for the shutout victory.
On Sunday, the Mustangs honoured graduating student-athletes Lauren Sovereign and Shannon Davidson during their last home stand.
The Varsity Blues brought their third place record to London, but were no match for the first place Mustangs. Both games ended in purple and white victories with matching scores of 7-0.
In game one Jacques pitched a perfect game with 9K, a feat that has only occurred twice in Mustang history. Balas and Sovereign had two RBIs each while Davidson scored twice.
The next game saw Kendra Dawson record two RBIs, with both Pearn and Reynolds scoring twice for the Mustangs.
Emma Parno, Murray, and Davidson drove in one run apiece. Contini allowed just three Varsity Blues to reach base, striking out five.
With the regular season behind them, the Mustangs now travel to Saskatoon over Thanksgiving looking for the program's fourth title in five years.
