TORONTO - The Western Mustangs women's soccer team closed out the annual Old Four tournament on a high note, defeating the Queen's Gaels by a 1-0 score on Sunday morning at Varsity Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, which saw Queen's outshoot Western 2-0, it was the Mustangs who opened the scoring. Rookie striker Vanessa Gugliette sent a long ball over Gaels goalkeeper Madison Tyrell's head and into the net in the 71st minute.
The Gaels fought back and had their best chances to score in the final minute of the match when Jenny Wolever and Savannah Meyer-Cleme peppered Western's Julianna Guglietti with shots, but the rookie keeper stood tall to hold on for the win.
Megan Brown and Guiglietti earned the clean sheet victory for Western.
