Western stays undefeated after draw with Golden Hawks

Box Score WATERLOO, Ont. – A first half goal from Sonja Cvetkovic helped the Western Mustangs earn a 1-1 draw with the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon at University Stadium.

The tie gives Western a 4-0-3 record and keeps the purple and white in a tie for second place in the OUA West Division alongside the Windsor Lancers. The Golden Hawks move to 2-1-4 on the year and are tied for fifth in West with Brock.

Cvetcovic's goal, her first of the season, came at the 16 minute mark of the first half with the defender converting an assist from Jenna White.

Laurier didn't wait long to respond however, with Tierney Dunham finding the back of the net just nine minutes later to tie things up at 1-1.

Those two early goals would be the only markers of the game, with neither side able to solve the opposing keeper for the remainder of the contest.

Megan Brown played all 90 minutes in the Mustangs net, turning aside four shots, while Ashley Almeida made seven saves for Laurier.

After two consecutive weeks with only one game on the schedule, the Mustangs are back in London for a pair of home contests next weekend. First up will be the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, September 24, at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup with the York Lions on Sunday at noon, with both games being held at Mustangs Field.
